Running for Israel began as an idea to help increase public awareness of the issues facing the State of Israel and the needs of the people who live there. To bring this idea into reality, Rabbi Eric Ertel of New York City and ten other motivated runners ran the 2004 New York City Marathon to begin raising One Million Dollars for causes that support the State of Israel and translate awareness into activism.
